Bearfoot Number 1, January 30, 2011

Well, the 2011 Bearfoot # 1 was rescheduled from the Fall of 2010 due to too much snow at the higher elevations.  Luckily for the Richmond Ramblers, it had not snowed or rained at Stony for several weeks and the conditions were perfect...Until Saturday night before the race - of course!  The weekend started out perfect with a trip over to the Oakland Colliseum for the SX.  DD and his bro Mark worked with the Bushwackers to flag the event.  DD got the easy duty of working the lights on the Toyota Tundra and Mark worked the mechanics barricades.

We woke at the hotel in Vacaville on Sunday to a steady (cold) rain and headed north to Stony, signed up for the race and Lauren and I were on row 67.  Well, within 1 mile, Lauren went for swim in the first water crossing and it was all down hill from there!  Well, actually uphill into the snow (4-6) inches of it!  Needless to say it was quite chilly and the feet and hands were frozen ice cubes.  Lauren and I decided to go one check past gas into the second loop.  I thought there would be a check right after gas - NOT!  The RR placed the check at least 10 (seemed like a hundred) miles into the second loop right after a snotty and rocky uphill called "Potato Hill".  Right after that check we bailed and took the quickest way back to the truck.

Lauren is one tough kid!  Just ask Old Dude who bailed on the ride before she did!  Obviously no photographers made it up the hill and it was quite lonely and cold up top.  Cannot wait for spring and some nice warm rides.
